Ella ends training for the day after her injuries

Alice Cox uses photography as a platform for storytelling. Over the past three months she has immersed herself into the world of Loughborough student welfare campaigner and athlete Ella Gibbons. By documenting her student life she places herself in the role of artist as anthropologist. She has recorded the everyday experiences of Ella as well as conducting interviews in order to gain a better understanding of the elements that make up such a strong and passionate young female.

These investigations were inspired by the Alice’s return to Loughborough after studying at the University of Michigan and feeling disorientated and out of touch with the town and university. The stories collected with Ella have not only helped her reconnect with her environment in Loughborough but have been a unique insight into issues which affect a much wider audience of young females at university today
